Calling all teachers of 16 to 18-year-olds. Get your pupils interested in politics by encouraging them to enter the Lord SpeakerHansard Society essay writing competition.
They’ll need to write no more than 750 words on the subject First Class Second Chamber: the challenges of an Upper House.
The winner will receive pound;150 and gets to shadow Baroness Hayman, the Lord Speaker, for a day. Two runners-up get an all-expenses paid trip to Westminster to meet Baroness Hayman and discuss their essays with members of the House of Lords. Essays must be submitted via www.parliament.ukholessaycompetition.cfm. The closing date for entries is June 25.
