Teachers are being offered pound;200 to persuade a friend or colleague to become a key stage test marker. Pearson, which this year takes over the marking of the tests, unveiled the incentive under a drive to recruit a total of 12,500 markers.

Schools will not receive their key stage 3 English results until August 24 this year, a month later than in the past. They will be given until September 16 to appeal. The changes have been introduced in the wake of last year’s marking fiasco, when thousands of pupils’ results were sent back to schools late.
