pound;54m for revamped youth service

YOUTH services in England are to be revamped with the introduction of national standards and a dramatic increase in funding. An extra pound;54 million will be spent directly on them over the next three years, while authorities will get a 6 per cent increase in youth and community funding, worth pound;519m next year. Education Secretary Charles Clarke will intervene if authorities fail to meet new standards, which include the variety and number of youth projects they should offer.
