Birmingham’s pioneering project to boost children’s out-of-school learning this week received a Pounds 430,000 fillip.
Its University of the First Age, which aims to raise educational achievements through promoting new approaches to learning, was given the cash by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
The money will be used to create 64 teacher fellows in 32 city schools who will receive training in accelerated, multi-sensory approaches to teaching and learning.
They will also be involved in developing University of the First Age summer schools, after-school and Saturday experiences as well as work designed to link into mainstream schools.
