Tuning the school boiler and fitting energy saving light bulbs could save schools cash. Eco-Schools, the UK’s largest environment programme for children, said schools are losing millions of pounds each year on heating, water, lighting and maintenance.

Alan Woods, chief executive, said: “If every school in Britain fitted energy saving light bulbs, they would save pound;10 per bulb in costs each year. By tuning their old boiler, they would also use 40 per cent less fuel.”
