WITH reference to your illuminating front-page story about secondary schools jumping the gun to ditch languages: what can we do about it? Language teachers like me feel that our managers have pulled the rug from under our feet. We suspected that their actions were illegal, but felt powerless, beyond voicing our concerns to our superiors (which has had no effect).
But the scale of the problem makes it clear that Government and education authorities need to be pro-active. They must find out which schools are breaking the law, and take action before it is too late. Otherwise, they will be doing a disservice to a generation of youngsters.
