Practical prizes of pound;30,000

More than seven out of 10 adults feel that education puts too much emphasis on academic learning, a survey said this week. The study of more than 8,300 people for Edge, a charity promoting practical learning, drew a damning portrait of school-leavers unprepared for the world of work. More than 60 per cent of youngsters said practical achievements should be recognised by formal qualifications.

Edge is offering awards worth pound;30,000 for employers who offer opportunities for training and work-related learning for 14 to 25-year-olds. For details see www.edgeawards.co.uk; telephone 0800 980 3343 or email: info@edgeawards.co.uk
