Pregnancies rise

THE Government’s crusade to cut the number of teenage pregnancies appears to have failed.

The latest figures show that 101,500 girls were pregnant in 1998 compare with 96,000 the previous year and pregnancies were at the highest level for nearly a decade. Almost half of the teenagers were under 18 and 8,438 under 16.
