Pupils let off after being caught cheating in exams

- Scotland’s exams authority has come under fire after it was revealed that 91 students caught cheating were let off with a warning. The Scottish Qualifications Authority revealed 91 pupils out of 324 who were caught cheating last year did not face any sanctions. Offences ranged from plagiarism and collusion to students using mobile phones.

Safety fears as schools dodge sprinkler laws

- Dozens of new school buildings have been exempted by ministers from installing new anti-fire sprinkler systems in breach of a law passed by the government. Ministers have granted nearly 50 exemptions to a range of new classrooms and other school buildings in the past two years, largely on grounds of cost.

School reopens ... with two kids

- One of Scotland’s most remote schools is to reopen - with just two children. Eve Morris, 5, is set to begin classes on the Hebridean island of Rum, which means headmaster Stuart Poole can return to his post. A three-year-old nursery pupil will also be taught at Rum Primary.

Call to fund counselling for every pupil at high school

- A call has been made for the government to fund counselling for every secondary school pupil in Scotland. The group, representing 37,000 counsellors and psychotherapists in Britain, said that funding was needed so that the service would be available to young people who need it. It has been proposed by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
