Primary schools are among the most popular public services rated by those who use them, according to a survey by the Scottish Consumer Council. It found that 91 per cent of users were satisfied, which was the second highest score, next to libraries at 93 per cent. Secondary schools gained a 79 per cent satisfaction rating, while social services were lowest at 66 per cent.

The approval scores fell dramatically when non-users were included in the survey, however, which provided a 49 per cent satisfaction score for primaries and 38 per cent for secondaries.

The findings coincide with plans by the Scottish Executive, unveiled last week under the title of Transforming Public Services. It wants education and other services to become more “user-focused and personalised”.
