Explore themes of “hot” and “cold” - colours and shapes. Make collages from pictures cut from holiday brochures. Make “pollution” collages using waste materials. Act out long-term weather forecasts. How do people behave on beaches, in snow, in deserts? What clothes are appropriate to different weather conditions? Listen to music (eg Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons) evocative of different conditions.

Find out about the word “global”. What is a “sceptic”? Organise debates with children taking on the role of sceptic. Write wind poems. Make up New Year’s resolutions - “What I can do to make a difference.” Make a weather chart. Collect temperature data and work out averages. Show information on block graphs. Find out what 25 per cent of something is (eg species, groups of plants, children in class). Grow plants insideoutside a green house.

Notice the differences. Experiment with water - melt ice, make steam. What happens to water levels of ice in water when the ice melts? Explore air currents - weather vanes, hot air balloons.
