Windows on the greats
A look at the masters’ lives and techniques
An introduction to Kandinsky and his works features biographical information and some of his most iconic images (lardypaws). The idea that he listened to Wagner while he painted could be used as the basis for an activity where pupils close their eyes while listening to music and then paint or draw the images that come into their heads.
A PowerPoint on Gaudi looks at the inspiration for some of his mosaics and the techniques he used (treflys). A lesson on Giacometti looks at his sculpture technique and then asks pupils to create their own Giacometti figure (gems81).
A PowerPoint on William Morris includes details of his life and images of his work (howsoonisnow).
Resources on Picasso include a video of some of his portraits that can be used to illustrate his different styles (HarrisSchool).
Materials on art movements include a PowerPoint on pop art (nhktfc), while another PowerPoint introduces pupils to pop art and Andy Warhol (FenellaF).
Another activity asks pupils to produce a portrait using one of four styles: pointillism, pop art, impressionism and fauvism (lyannemarsh).

School Stickers has created a range of free posters to commemorate events from Pi Day and the European Day of Languages to World Space Week and Tell a Story Day. Measure for measure
Tools on time, weight, volume and distance
A simple clock for the interactive whiteboard enables early years or key stage 1 pupils to read the time or set it by moving the hands. A digital clock tool can be used to demonstrate time intervals (TES iboard).
A PowerPoint presentation aimed at Years 2 and 3 looks at measuring in centimetres, converting into metres and reading an unmarked scale (Rushtini).
For KS2 pupils, a PowerPoint including animation and sound effects provides an introduction to the concept of metric weights and measures (grallert).
A KS2 activity sets a series of measurement problems based around Springfield, the home of the Simpsons, covering a range of topics, including using and applying number and multi-step problems (cleggy1611). In the non-animated world, a resource uses images from Google Earth to set pupils the task of measuring the perimeter and area of buildings (amberrose). Activities for calculating volume include estimating and then measuring the capacity of various different containers (carriecat10).

Approaches to German
Interactive materials provide a useful introduction
A quiz asking pupils how much they know about Germany can be used as an introduction to the language (cjs_uk). A video about the country, accompanied by a PowerPoint on greetings and a quiz, can also be effective (lydiadavies).
Another PowerPoint blends visual, auditory and kinaesthetic strategies to teach the key sounds of German, with examples so pupils can apply their new knowledge (rhawkes).
Pupils learn how the words are built from a presentation on German numbers (alemanjana), while a series of flashcards originally developed for use with pupils with special needs helps teach the numbers 1-20 (bevevans22).
The collection also includes a worksheet on colours (Nicola Jeffrey) and a PowerPoint and activities on birthdays, including a link to a rendition of Happy Birthday in German (newfiftytwo).
A PowerPoint introduces the names for immediate and extended family (rhawkes), a workbook and resources about a zoo features animal vocabulary, and touches on issues including conservation, zoo planning and the environment (charlie_overend).
A series of interactive games asks pupils to describe people’s characteristics (curriculumbits.com) and a PowerPoint on what children might eat or drink at lunchtime introduces food vocabulary (sorymo).
Pupils use pictures from a rendering of Three Little Pigs into German as cues for language (Northumberland NGfL), and a karaoke game asks pupils to sing along to learn introductions, names and family members (languagenut).
