A new mobile dust extraction booth capable of handling the dust waste and fumes from hand power tools used in schools for metalwork and woodworking activities has been developed by HME Technology. This single piece of equipment, which costs Pounds 880, will bring several workstations up to full health and safety specifications. The Royal Society of Arts has opened its first regional centre at Dean Clough, Halifax, a centre for business, arts, design and education situated in a complex of 19th-century mills, where it will work with the Design Dimension Educational Trust, a national initiative which aims to raise design awareness in business and in the classroom. The Design and Technology Education Exhibition will be held at the National Exhibition Centre Hall 6, Birmingham, October 26-28, with "classroom" demonstrations of primary and secondary school work. There will be a special focus on excellence in A-Level Advanced Technology with exhibits ranging from aerodynamic wheels to enable racing cyclists to go faster to a solar tracking device, and including ingenious security devices and aids for the handicapped.
