I QUITE agree with Adrian Mourby (TES, January 29). Schools should not be teaching pupils about the forthcoming royal wedding, unless it is to count up how many column inches the broadsheet papers spend covering what is essentially a tabloid story.

What they should be teaching, particularly at the moment, is why we mark the 350th anniversary of the execution of King Charles I on January 30 and what its significance was and is for the democratic process in Britain.

In the old days we used to call it “British Constitution’’. I think some time around the 1832 Reform Act I even got an O-level in it.
