Government inspectors took the rare step of singling out a department for praise when they awarded Derby Tertiary College, Wilmorton, a grade 1 for its education services for 470 prisoners at Sudbury prison, Derbyshire. The services “are of very high quality” and “should be congratulated”, they wrote.
The accolade came the day the former Home Secretary Douglas Hurd called for more money to be ploughed into prison education.
