* Dr Seldon, head of Brighton college, is right to point out that middle-class parents pay for good schooling through buying houses near good schools or extra tuition to get children into top state schools. This is certainly so in the Asian community.
It is interesting that in evaluating schools’ performance no account is taken of the effect of private tutoring!
Would it not be fairer to measure schools’ success by how well pupils from less favourable backgrounds are doing?
