PARENTS’ chances of getting their first choice of school are improved if they are professionals living outside the South-east.

Those who are unemployed or unskilled are twice as likely to be disappointed. The biggest osers are those in London. More than one in nine had to settle for a school other than their favourite.

Overall, fewer than one in 14 parents failed to get their child a place at their first-choice school.
