PSE - Peer support for young mums

An advice website that was created and developed by a group of teenage mothers was launched last week in Edinburgh.

The Sassy Mums website, which recently picked up a Standard Life achievement award, offers advice and support on the realities and choices facing young mothers and their families.

The idea for the website arose when four young mums joined a group to help develop their literacy skills and discovered they shared many common experiences. They wanted to help others in a similar situation and Sassy Mums was born.

The website has helpful information on topics such as finance and health. It also tells the stories of the young mums and encourages readers to get in touch and pass on their own stories.

This project is run by City of Edinburgh Council's children and families department, and is based at Goodtrees Neighbourhood Centre in Gilmerton.
