PSE - Poignant podcasts

Last week, the youth information organisation Young Scot began the second phase of its project Download Lowdown by posting a broadcast from young offenders at Polmont Young Offenders Unit, who give a frank and poignant account of their experience of life there.

Over the coming weeks, a further 15 podcasts will be launched, aimed at engaging with excluded and marginalised young people to explore creatively issues which are important to them.

Kerry Simpson, 22, from Fife, is one of the young Scots to benefit from Download Lowdown. She has recorded a podcast featuring an interview and a song she wrote after spending several years homeless when she was a teenager.

"Getting involved in Download Lowdown came at exactly the right time for me," she said. "It gave me an opportunity to reflect on my life and how far I've come, as well as giving me the chance to really explore my creativity."

Download Lowdown is supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation in partnership with Dialogue Youth.
