Pearson, the publishing company which owns the Edexcel exam board, is being considered for a pound;1-million-a-year contract to develop key stages 2 and 3 maths tests for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.
As The TES went to press, the QCA board was due to discuss the award of the contract, which would see around 30 QCA staff transferring to the private sector. The QCA said no decision had been made. Pearson declined to comment.
The move follows a recommendation in a Government review of the QCA’s functions in 2002, which advised that privatisation should be considered.
