YOU have to be worldly-wise if you are president of the British Psychological Society - and you need to respond to media curiosity. Tommy MacKay, an educational psychologist in West Dunbartonshire when not running the BPS, recalls a journalist anxious to know what psychology had to say about Channel 4‘s Big Brother.
“I may have been the only person in th world who not only hadn’t watched it but hadn’t even heard of it,” MacKay comments. “The TV broke in January and, under some domestic pressure, I got it fixed at the end of July.”
Nasty Nick may have been all over the Sun but “unfortunately the BBC World Service on the wireless had overlooked his importance, and I was completely in the dark”.
