Pupil participants, not consumers

Mike Kent's concerns about an NQT asking his pupils to evaluate his lesson seem to me misguided ("Don't treat pupils as consumers", November 20).

In my experience, such reflection on progress and methods of learning can be illuminating for all involved. This is not about treating pupils as "consumers" or "equals", but as active participants in the learning process.

In my view, involving the pupils in a mutual process of reflection in a meaningful and considered way is not an element of classroom practice to be frowned upon.
