Schools should contact local authority planning officers and politicians to make them more aware of the views of young people, according to the Children’s Society.
Ian Sparks, its chief executive, said: “The environment and community issues are already being used as a subject in schools, and children are sometimes more knowledgeable on the subject than adults.”
The society is organising events in February and has produced a guide for teachers wanting to get their pupils more involved in their local communities.
