The leading association of lycee pupils is staging a second campaign against violence among schoolchildren.

The Federation Independente et Democratique des Lycees has distributed leaflets, posters and stickers across France extolling the virtue of respect over violence to upper secondary schools. It hopes to create “a counter model,” according to FIDL president Olivia Jean.

“We are against the fashion of violence,” she said. “The situation is becoming worse, and is involving more and more young people.” A study is being conducted to provide figures on the issue.

The government “has a lot to do” in tackling the problem, she said. She wants to see a statute on respect for the young, a clamp-down on racial discrimination, and improved help for pupils in difficulty at school.
