Puppets launch our partnership

When Czech puppeteers came to our school to help launch an international venture - we’re soon to be twinned with a school in Brno, Czech Republic - Year 6 seized the chance for some hands-on story-telling.

They quickly learned some Czech greetings, and the puppetry was only one of the week’s activities.

They’ve been making their own puppets as well as traditional-tale story books to send to their new friends in Brno. Commonwealth poet Rommi Smith held a workshop here during which pupils wrote poetry about Life in Leeds - we’re looking into the idea of getting our poems translated into Czech. Our children hope to put their ICT skills into practice and email the poems themselves and they’ve been using the internet to find out more about the partner country. We even had a Czech meal prepared in the school kitchen - meatballs and dumplings.

City of Leeds International Relations is running the initiative and we are looking forward to finding out who will be our twin.
