We recently highlighted the British Film Institute website, screenonline, as a rich new source of media clips of UK film and television for schools and colleges. It’s also time to revisit the Pathe library run by ITN, now a year old and in version two, which is packed with news and newsreel footage and digital images from the turn of the century. What better way to illustrate a presentation on the rise of Hitler, for example, than a newsreel story of Hitler assuming Bismark’s mantle as Chancellor of Germany (one of the most popular clips)? While this is a commercial library, low-resolution downloads are free to schools.
