* I was appalled by your report “Put your heads to the test” (TES, April 28) which seemed to promote the idea of assessment centres for prospective heads.
The National College for School Leadership is obviously not content with controlling who can apply for headship, it now wants to choose who gets the job in each school. How long before attendance at these centres is compulsory, with all power taken away from school governors? Do we really want a private company making decisions on our behalf? It’s not about finding the best person for the job, it’s about government control, and another nail in the coffin for trust.
