Lord Puttnam, head of the General Teaching Council, is surprised at teachers’ lack of self-esteem (TES, January 19). As surprised as he would be if there was a General Actors Council and they put a teacher at its head?

And in FE Focus? “Colleges struggle to recruit and retain” ad “redundancy threats”. Who said further education “has less job security than an ice-cream factory in a cold summer”? I did after news of the latest redundancies at my college, before I got out. I’m puzzled that he’s puzzled.
