The poet R S Thomas died last month, aged 87. But a year ago he recorded three CDs, reading 145 poems that cover nearly 50 years of imaginative endeavour and of wrestling with language. His voice is uncompromising. Like his verse, it evokes the Welsh landscape and the mystery of his religious vocaion, and the occasional rapt silence at the heart of both.
