Page 3 of The TES (September 6) referred to “the major report that finds white teachers creating conflict with their African-Caribbean pupils”, while on page 13 Reva Klein quoted the report by David Gillborn and Caroline Gipps that “Teachers and schools may play an active, though unintended, role in the creation of conflict with African-Caribbean pupils”.
Neither account mentioned that African-Caribbean pupils may contribute to the conflict. The failure to indicate that the conflict is the consequence of attitudes on both sides - pupils and teachers - constitutes a species of racism, whose expression in your pages is something to be widely condemned.
