However, I strongly disagree that religious education should no longer be compulsory at key stage 4. RE plays an increasingly important role in equipping students with the tools for critical reflection of their own beliefs and the beliefs of others, the discernment of religious and cultural diversity.

Not to give them these skills may leave our children open to all-comers who may seek their religious or ideological affiliation in years to come.
