Geoff Hall, New College Nottingham’s principal, refers to the confusion his students are experiencing because of the descriptors FE and HE (“HEFE labels confuse students, claims 157 Group”, FE Focus, November 6).
I do think it is important not to generalise with regard to the whole sector on the basis of the perceptions of a handful of colleges.
My own 4,000 HE students are very clear about, and indeed relish, the distinction between HE and FE. In the same way, many of my FE students aspire to HE either at Blackburn College’s University Centre or elsewhere, and are equally aware of the distinction and indeed the progression opportunities HE offers.
Ian Clinton, Principal and chief executive, Blackburn College.
