Read my lips

Children are being encouraged to learn lip-reading and sign language as part of a campaign by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

The charity has created two education packs for primary and secondary pupils to improve understanding of deafness and deaf communication techniques.

Packs include card games using sign language symbols and a poem writing competition to build on finger-spelling and lip-reading exercises.

A drama workshop, with script and stage directions, also encourages children to empathise with deaf people.

The information has been put together as part of an educational awareness day called Togs for Dogs, to be held in June.
