Reason to strike

I feel that David Ogle (Primary View, TES, November 29) has misunderstood why London teachers are striking and the financial burden this places on them.

For the recent one-day strike, I recognised that I would not be paid for that day but felt I had to participate because of the situation that I and many other staff are in with regard to housing.

I am lodging in north London and travel to Hertfordshire, but I am unable to afford housing in either area and am considering getting bar work to reduce my financial burden.

Were the Government to increase the London allowances I might be able to own my own property and change my life-style for the better. This, to me, was a very important reason to strike.
