I recently completed a postgraduate certificate in education course at a university in London, and I was astonished by how little work one could do to pass this course and how poorly it prepares a new entrant. It was little more than an indoctrination course in national curriculum jargon and included no child psychology or practical advice. Luckily, I can compensate for this as I have had teaching experience abroad. However, a recent graduate would probably feel completely ill-equipped.
