New work-related diplomas will increase teachers’ workloads because they are a “recipe for endless assessment”, an academic warned this week. Professor Alison Wolf, of King’s College London, said the 14-19 diplomas, which begin in September, were highly reliant on coursework. Professor Wolf, an authority on vocational qualifications, also told a Learning Skills Foundation conference in London that diplomas were “devoid of educational purpose and coherence”.
