Union fury has greeted the revelation that Gary Brace, the chief executive of the General Teaching Council for Wales, has been given a 21.4 per cent pay rise, taking his salary to pound;80-pound;85,000. The NASUWT has condemned it as “reckless expenditure” and said teachers would be “stunned”. The GTCW said the figure represented two years’ worth of increases since Mr Brace had chosen not to take a rise in 2006-07. Tony Finn, GTC Scotland chief executive, earns pound;90-pound;105,000 and his English counterpart Keith Bartley pound;135-pound;140,000.
