Religious studies revival hit by teacher shortage

THE Church is pleased that more pupils are showing an interest in religious studies, but points to a shortage of time and teachers. Among 26 secondary schools inspected, 23 did not allocate enough time for religious and moral education.

The report sates that religious and moral education “will not thrive until it is recognised by pupils and parents as a subject that helps pupils develop interpersonal skills because they understand and recognise their own and others’ beliefs and values”.
