Dr Jim Sinclair, director of the Joint Council for Qualifications, recently stated in a letter to The TES (“Disputed Marks”, February 15) that “GCSE grades that changed on re-marking last summer represented less than 0.01 per cent of the grades issued”. However, according to official figures published last week, the proportion was 0.25 per cent.

It doesn’t do much for confidence in the system when the council’s calculations are out by a factor of 25.
