Four Dutch primary school teachers have explained to Scottish colleagues how enterprise was interpreted in their classrooms.

The teachers, all based near Amsterdam, spoke at the recent Enterprise in Education conference at Strathclyde University. Delegates heard about the success of a project centred on Rembrandt, the great Dutch artist, which shot off in several directions. Pupils painted in the style of Rembrandt, below, visited Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum, and entertained parents during an end-of-project presentation by wearing period costume and singing songs of the era.

Another idea was to encourage 23 schools in the same area to take part in a festival. The schools often had contrasting ethnic make-ups, so the festival was intended to promote mutual understanding. Teachers and children alike were charged with getting in touch with businesses that might support the event.
