An Eritrean refugee student who fled his country to avoid being forced to become a child soldier has won a reprieve from deportation.

Amaniel Weldemichael, who is studying at East Norfolk sixth-form college, faced being sent back to Italy, where he was left destitute by the authorities after first claiming asylum there.

His foster family said he was granted a last-minute reprieve on Tuesday, and solicitors have applied for a judicial review of the decision to deport him.
