Respect for authority outdated

The world that schools are preparing children for may be 20 years out of date. Management guru Charles Handy said that pupils have always learnt to respect authority, a sound preparation for work in large organisations. But today's employees need to be independent-minded, to work as self-employed freelances. He was speaking at the National Extension College's 2001 Geoffrey Hubbard Memorial Lecture sponsored by The TES.
