The world that schools are preparing children for may be 20 years out of date. Management guru Charles Handy said that pupils have always learnt to respect authority, a sound preparation for work in large organisations. But today’s employees need to be independent-minded, to work as self-employed freelances. He was speaking at the National Extension College’s 2001 Geoffrey Hubbard Memorial Lecture sponsored by The TES.
