The Giffnock corner shop that serves St Ninian’s High pupils with penny chews and other dental delights made sure it was ready for the new term’s lunchtime onslaught by posting a notice on its door: “Only four school pupils allowed in the shop.”

How the lucky four have been selected is not known, but trade will surely be affected by the exclusion of the other 1,696 and all the adults in Giffnock as well.
