Five hundred parents and children will gather in Edinburgh next Thursday to celebrate Bookstart in Scotland Day.

The theme this year is music to highlight the Bookstart Rhymetimes pilot, currently running in several local authorities.

Children and parents will meet at The Hub for a huge Bookstart Rhymetime when they will sing rhymes, listen to stories and read books.

The event will almost certainly feature some of Scotland’s top 10 nursery rhymes, identified by Bookstart in Scotland through a recent poll of 6,000 parents and children. Topping the list was “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”, which also happens to be the “favourite rhyme time” of Kathleen Marshall, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People.
