New Year salutations to Scholastic for unusual sensitivity to the Scottish curriculum. The publisher’s latest books on primary reading are specifically geared to the 5-14 guidelines. The volume for key stage 1 of the national curriculum also features “Scottish levels A-B”. The second book for key stage 2 takes in 5-14 levels C-E.

The references are more than tokenist. For example, a section on recognising rhyme and phonological awareness is described as fulfilling requirements for “reading aloud at level A”. The message for other publishers should be loud and clear.
