Parents fear there are too many bad teachers, affecting the quality of the education their children receive. Interviews with parents around the country revealed that they felt that the “right” school was vital. It also ensured that their children made the “right kinds of friends”. The research, commissioned by the Government, examined the factors influencing child well-being. But many respondents felt that the pursuit of happiness was futile. A mother said: “Some children will always be miserable little sods, no matter what you do.”
