So the British Empire is back on the school history curriculum (“British empire back on the timetable, TES, June 30). As a socialist historian I regard this as good news. It is surely a signal for screenings of Ken Loach’s The Wind That Shakes The Barley in schools, followed by discussion of the realities of British imperial rule and the resistance to it.
