A new children’s book promoting the importance of healthy eating to nursery-age children has been launched.

When Sammy met Sally supports the Scottish Executive’s Hungry for Success programme and was launched by Andy Kerr, Health Minister, at Ladywell Nursery in Tullibody, Clackmannanshire.

The book explains to children, in a language they can understand, the benefits of establishing good eating habits for the rest of their lives. It was developed by Albert Bartlett Son, a supplier of root vegetables. The company runs a healthy living programme and has been working with the Michelin-starred chef Andrew Fairlie from the Gleneagles Hotel.

Plans are in place for the book to be rolled out to nurseries across Scotland.

Marianne Patterson, headteacher of Ladywell Nursery, said of the book: “It has very good messages about healthy eating written in a fun way that captures the children’s imagination.”
