The Scottish Amateur Rowing Association has received pound;61,182 from SportScotland to be used towards developing the sport. This follows its bid with Glasgow City Council, through the Steve Redgrave Trust, to launch an indoor rowing project. The aim is to establish rowing as an activity at every school in the city and ultimately across Scotland.

SARA will provide two development coaches to oversee the project and up to 20 volunteer coaches to work in individual schools to train volunteers and teachers. The partnership manager will focus on the development of school-club links, new clubs and the recruitment of volunteers and coaches.

Meanwhile, this year’s schools rowing championships will take place at Strathclyde Country Park on June 10-11.
