Colin Philips, who plays for Aberdeen Grammar School FP, has been appointed Scottish Rugby Union development officer for Moray.

Mr Philips, 21, has worked in the Banff area promoting new image rugby in primary schools and coaching juniors at Banff Rugby Club. He has played for Aberdeen GS FP for the past four years and was a member of the Caledonia Under-26 development squad last year.

“Hopefully, I will be able to make a real diffeence in progressing the sport in the local community,” he said after taking up his three-year appointment.

The post was made possible through funding from the SRU, local firms and Sportscotland’s Sportsmatch scheme. The SRU now has 23 development officers in place throughout the country and will announce three new posts shortly. AberdeenNorth East, East Dunbartonshire and FalkirkStirling will soon have development officers.
